New Beginnings-Who is Exigent?

As this is my inaugural blog, I figure this should be the appropriate place to introduce who we are, even though as individuals in the industry are not that new.

With over 30 years of agricultural expertise; Exigent is a curator and creator of novel technologies, offering innovative and exclusive opportunities for growth. Based centrally in Delisle, Saskatchewan, we provide a diverse, vetted portfolio with unparalleled training & support for our retail partners.

That’s our vision and mission statement. These statements are always critiqued to the millionth degree so that they are perfect in describing who we think we are. This one does well.

Our team- owned and led by Adam and Alesha Schumacher bring great experience and knowledge from the Innovative Ag Performance Group that they now solely own in recent years. And officially formed when I, Joe Olesko, parted ways with Verdesian to join the crew to create something wonderful. That experience in the retail industry combined with the ground-level understanding of grower needs (being farmers ourselves), we see a lot more than your average company in W. Canada.

The retail game has had to do more R&D on their own as government entities have vanished or have fallen into complacency on ag practices and recommendations. The big line companies simply look at commoditizing all the inputs and selling based on volume. Little to no risk on recommendations. Very little experience with the broad range of products and heavy on program /loyalty-based decisions…

Well, someone must?!? There are a lot of neat technologies out there and the big companies in the world don’t always have the best technologies. There is always someone smarter. Maybe ‘the little’ guy has to try that much harder to earn trust through diligent work and asking more questions than complacent big fish that just sit back and ‘expect the business.

Team Exigent has seen the need to do just that. Looking at the connections around the world to see what is cool is one thing, but the simple fact of asking our customers “what do you need to change to make your business better”, seems to be overlooked by a huge majority of the industry.

Product X will give you way more boron for your canola because we saw it do wonders in Buttefuch, MB. And it’s also going to keep flea beetles away because they had a paper on Boron effects from a university in Alabama. AND, you get rebate from the parent company when you buy a 3 year supply…

Utter nonsense! This oversight by our industry wears on the trust farmers had had in the past and exposes suppliers as simply looking for quick buck, instead of looking at this as a partnership for success. You do good, we do good.

However, not to focus on the inadequacies of the industry in a general sense, Exigent has a great deal of excitement. Never did I think that we can reclaim land lost to salinity and make it productive again. We do now! Can we make fall seeded (spring) canola work? You bet. How about make crops 10% more productive using biology and reduce the use of industrial fertilizer by 25%; uh huh.

The list of new strategies seems to arrive every month, and we want to lead the industry in developing these new ideas. And we are getting noticed because companies around the world that share our vision contact us all the time to see how we can work together. Amazing!

We welcome you to come see the excitement and see what we can do for you!
